#AFTERMETOO LAUNCHES THEIR FUND AT THE CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS

March 19, 2018

#AfterMeToo, in partnership with the Canadian Women's Foundation, has established a fund to provide mental health support resources for survivors of sexual violence. The Canadian Academy of Film and Television showed its support by distributing the #AfterMeToo pins at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards as well as giving #AfterMeToo some commercial time. The pins were worn by hosts, presenters and nominees.

"The Canadian Screen Awards show won't have a dress code but has given some commercial time to the #AfterMeToo group, which recently partnered with the Canadian Women's Foundation to establish a fund for sexual violence support services."

says Victoria Ahearn from the Canadian Press. More here >

Many nominees and attendees wore the pin, including award winning Canadian Author, Margaret Atwood, the entire crew from Canadian shows like Schitt's Creek and Kim's Convenience, and actors like Kim Coates who I adored watching on Sons of Anarchy

Was I a little excited that stars I had seen on the big screen were wearing this 'thing' that I had designed? Hell yes. But over anything else, I was so proud that someone like Margaret Atwood was speaking on our behalf and endorsing the work that was being done.

The report and episodes that were issued as a result of the Symposium which took place in December can be found on the #Aftermetoo website.

"A ‘structural’ way to deal with misconduct" says Margaret Atwood.

"In recent years - and especially since the advent of #MeToo - there has been a sizable increase in demand on Canada’s overloaded, underfunded sexual violence support services.
